Our First Bespoke Tweed Wedding Dress

Bespoke Wedding Dress

Back in February, I was delighted to receive a lovely message from Fionna, Natasha's mother, asking if I would be interested in designing her daughter a wedding dress! Natasha had been to many wedding dress designers but couldn't find that perfect dress. She knew she wanted tweed, which is an unusual (but fabulous) fabric for a wedding dress, and was struggling to find someone that could design her dream dress. Knowing that we specialise in tweed, she kindly reached out and I couldn't have been more excited by the challenge!

Tweed is a particularly difficult fabric to work with, as it has little movement and provided unique challenges for creating a fitted wedding dress. We started the process with Natasha sending me inspirational images of the style she was after and we worked together to design and develop this dream dress.

I then followed up with tweed fabric samples from our many suppliers, and Natasha and I then chose the beautiful cotton tweed we ended up using.

After developing our initial idea we created a first toile, which actually had boning in the corset, but decided this was too structured, especially for a wedding reception where you want to dance! One of the most important things for Natasha was the bow on the back, which we created so that it could be removed if she wanted more freedom. In the end it did stay on all evening as she danced the night away!

Designing a wedding dress is such a joyous thing to be asked to do. I was so honoured to be part of Natasha's journey to her wedding day and thank her greatly for bestowing her trust in me to design, what we feel, is the most beautiful dress. And she couldn't have looked more beautiful in it!

We also want to thank Divine Day Photography for some truly wonderful photographs.
